The Masaka Regional Department Tournament was organised by UNSA on 14th June 2024 at Timothy Girls High School. St. Aloysius Girls Senior Secondary School Bwanda was represented by a team amongst the 23 schools that included the host school, Timothy Girls High School from Kissoso, St. Henry’s College Kitovu, Act High School, Archbishop Kiwanuka S.S.S. Masaka Secondary School, Bexhill S.S.S., Blessed Sacrament S.S.S. Kimaanya, to mention but a few. A total of 45 teams competed on that day from a total of 23 schools.
On arrival at the venue, the school had to register its participation and later had breakfast. The Public Speakers and Poetess were called in different rooms for briefing. The Debaters were also briefed by Judge Jonathan. Each team was assigned a code name and our school’s code name was Lira. After the first three rounds we managed to conquer all our opponents in the preliminary rounds and qualified for the quarter finals.
In the quarter final stage, our school competed with Lamine School and we managed to won all the rounds thus proceeding to the semi final. At the semi final stages we faced off with the host school, Timothy Girls High School. After all the rounds, the Judges failed to come up with a unanimous decision and therefore, they opted for split voting. Two judges voted in favor of St. Aloysius Girls S.S.S. Bwanda and three judges voted for Timothy Girls High School.
At the end of the tournament, St. Henry’s College Kitovu emerged as the first runners up with the host school reigning as the Champions. St. Aloysius Girls S.S.S. Bwanda emerged as the second runners up. Our school qualified for the Nationals due to take place in Jinja.
We would to thank Sister Headmistress for the financial, moral and spiritual support accorded to the team and in each and every aspect such as access to the Internet that we largely used for carrying out research. We also haven’t forgotten the support of our Patron, Madam Cate Nakayenga for the guidance in the presentations we always made.
In conclusion, we believe that continued support from the administration will work as a backbone and enable us one day to bring the trophy home. “SPEC PATRA”
